Good for the Soul… EDIT: This post was meant for this past Sunday (Katie's B-day!) Last week was busy! I’m still getting used to working five days a week. *Insert eye roll! I know, five days a week is nothing new for many of you, but after two months off…it’s been an adjustment. Thursday night, I was home in my PJs when I received a phone call just before 7pm. The only person I know by name in my apartment community, was calling to invite me to the movie theater here on the property! It’s a lovely theater, with 15 seats and residents can use it, free of charge, to show DVDs. I love it and have used it a couple of times. But Thursday, I was invited to join a group of “girls” for the movie POMS . This was a movie with Diane Keaton as the lead. It was a movie about a group of older women in a retirement community forming a chee...

Pardon the Interruption… I had a blog post ready to go and when I woke up this morning, I changed my mind. I couldn’t let my Sunday post go by without a love note to my daughter, Katie, on her 31 st birthday. Forgive me for using my blog for this purpose. Today’s blog goes out to my favorite human. Feel free to read it because I’m happy to share!!! Dear Katie…I will never forget the day you were born. It started really early, actually it started before I realized it (the night before!). Who knew that those cramps were actually the start of labor. There was no way I could have imagined how you would change my life. We arrived at the hospital around 5:30am. The doctor came into the room around 7am and he told us it was going to be a long day. He specifically told your Dad not to miss any meals because he would need his strength!! ...

Two Steps Forward… I have been debating about whether or not to share this but I agreed when I started this blog…I would be honest…even when the topic may not be totally flattering. This past weekend I was a slug. I was lazy, I had a hard time getting motivated and accomplished very little. I do think I deserved some of it, and I definitely recognized the “sluggish” behavior, but wasn’t really sure why. The week had been busy at work and some personal appointments…mani, haircut, counseling, and all day meeting for the kick-off of school. Okay, so a mani and a haircut, can’t be considered difficult things. The counseling session was good…but it had been a month so it was draining as a lot had gone on in that month. I was looking forward to the weekend. Friday, I helped host a “Sip & Swim” party that a Gala guest had won in our auction. The host and I put together the fajita bar and buntini...

Privacy Please…or Not? That is the question! Recently, I placed an order for an event I was hosting this past Friday. Easy, fajita bar from our local Moe’s Southwest Grill that was to be delivered. I also ordered mini bundt cakes for dessert…SOOOO EASY!! It was 10pm and I was in my chair, feet up and watching something trashy on TV! The next morning, I logged onto Facebook and woke up to my Facebook memories, followed by an ad for Moe’s Southwest Grill Catering and Nothing Bundt Cakes! WOWZA! I’ve looked at Third Love before as a site for bras (sorry guys!) and now, I feel like they are sending me Facebook notices every time there’s a sale! Did you know there are skin tag removers? I was talking to someone about that and BAM ! Ads for skin tags popped up. It wou...

Changing Roles This post is about something that many of you have experienced or are experiencing. It is about this time in our lives and the role of becoming caretakers for our parents. I know I am very blessed…both of my parents are living, in their own home, and thankfully, I have three siblings in Louisville to keep an eye on them. However, I am definitely a big part of checking in on them. Trips to Louisville to go to doctor appointments have been part of my routine for a few years now. I worry that those trips may become more frequent. Do you have parents who talk about “the old people at church” or “he looks so old.” I always chuckle because I wonder just what they are thinking. How much older are these people at church? How old do they think they look? Do they ever wonder what people may be saying about them? Sometimes, my Mom has lunch with her high school friends...

School Days…School Days! I was out shopping Saturday afternoon and it was clear… SCHOOL IS ABOUT TO START (if it hasn’t already!) and school supplies are flying off of the shelves! It’s been a long time since I’ve had to buy school supplies and I’m not bragging when I say I have invested a lot in pencils, notebooks, binders, pencil boxes and the like. I know the lists have gotten longer and more specific over the years and for that, I am grateful that I am finished with the mandatory school supply shopping. However, yesterday, I found myself “shopping” for school supplies…for myself. I’m not going back to school but I am back to work…at a school! For some reason, I felt it necessary to purchase some folders…10 for $1 and a packet of spiral notebooks with bright colors. I found it necessary to add some Sharpies and some multi-colored paperclips. AHHHHH!!! I wanted to buy a couple of binders and som...

Ohhhhhh….Wednesday! So many things on my mind these days! First, being a Grandma (CeCe)! Wishing I lived closer to Katie & Anthony so I could hug on her every day and watch these last few weeks of her pregnancy. As a “first-timer” I have no expectations so I am full of wonder. In case you hadn’t noticed, I CAN’T WAIT!!! Second, I’m back at work! Started on August 1 and boy, it doesn’t take long to get back to reality! With my job, having June and July is such a gift! You may remember that I had lots of plans for my two months off. I owe you all an update…and I feel safe…as in “no judging zone!” I did not log in ONE day trip! This makes me sad because I had a list and I had looked forward to picking this up again. However, some how I managed to log close to 3000 miles in those two months. Between Pittsburgh (more t...

I’m Ready!!! Today, we celebrated Katie and Baby T with friends in Pittsburgh! One of Katie’s friends, Emily, hosted a lovely luncheon at one of our favorite places. Surrounded by girlfriends, we enjoyed the last “official” party in honor of Katie and Baby T. We are just about five weeks away from the due date and I CAN’T WAIT ! The celebrations have been fun and each had their own personality. Our luncheon today was special and unique. We had received an invitation that had lemons on it…I think it stemmed from Katie’s love of all things lemon (like her momma!). But I like to think that it came from the announcement on the maternity app that said the baby was the size of a lemon at the time. At any rate, the theme was carried out from start to finish! We arrived at the restaurant and knew which table was ours based on the adorable table runner and floral arrangements on the t...
