Good for the Soul…
EDIT:   This post was meant for this past Sunday (Katie's B-day!)

Last week was busy!  I’m still getting used to working five days a week.   *Insert eye roll!   I know, five days a week is nothing new for many of you, but after two months off…it’s been an adjustment.

Thursday night, I was home in my PJs when I received a phone call just before 7pm.   The only person I know by name in my apartment community, was calling to invite me to the movie theater here on the property!   It’s a lovely theater, with 15 seats and residents can use it, free of charge, to show DVDs.

I love it and have used it a couple of times.   But Thursday, I was invited to join a group of “girls” for the movie POMS.   This was a movie with Diane Keaton as the lead.   It was a movie about a group of older women in a retirement community forming a cheerleading squad.   They wouldn’t take NO for an answer!

It was a sweet comedy and yet there were tears.   Now I know I have tears often, but these were sweet tears and I wasn’t alone.   There were others sniffling in the dark room too.

As you can imagine, a group of older women, trying to be cheerleaders is funny in its own right…but insert the “auditions” for the squad, the aches and pains of the “girls” that keep them from doing some of their moves, and the movie became even more hilarious.   I know I could relate to every one of their ailments!

I won’t spoil the story for you, but I am planning to get a group together to join me to watch this movie again.  It's a great friend movie.  Let me know if you are interested…We’ll make plans for October or November.

Although the movie was a big part of the evening, for me, it was a lesson in making myself get out there!   You see, I really didn’t want to get clothes on (remember, it was almost 7pm and I was already in my PJs).   I was settled in for the evening.   But I received a call…and didn’t let myself think about it.   I acted quickly to get dressed and head out.

I’m so glad I did.   There were 8 lovely ladies there to watch the movie, eat pizza and drink wine.   I didn’t know any of them but we shared this fun movie, one that all of us could relate to.

When it was over, we planned to meet up at the Poolside Brunch at our pool that was held on Saturday.   Sure enough, some of us were there, enjoying the festivities.  (and the mimosas!)

I may not remember all of their names, but I will remember their smiling faces and look forward to seeing them around the complex.   Hopefully, they will show up for the tryouts for the cheerleaders of Nantucket being held next week!!!   XOXOXO
