Another Fun Hangover!   WOW! This past weekend was awesome! It was a labor of love, kind of like my class reunions, and I loved every minute. Forgive me for bubbling over with joy after the first “Let’s Take on Derby City” with my newfound group of “Ethels.” It ended on Sunday and today, I’m finally feeling back to normal (whatever that might mean!). Nothing like a good “Fun Hangover.” The Ethels are a group of women, mainly 50 and over, and we are part of an AARP Facebook page, called The Ethel Circle. Ethel was one of the founders of AARP so the name of the group is a tribute to her. Most of you have seen THE video, knowing that I have a Kentuckiana group of Ethels. (* That video has gone viral by the way!!)   At one of our luncheons, we decided to invite other Ethels from different states, to come for a gathering. I had hoped to have 50-75 and began marketing before the holidays, then started official registration on March 1. Although we didn’t make my go...

I WAS READY FOR MY CLOSE-UP….   Happy Friday Friends! I had planned to send out my blogpost on Wednesday, as part of my “back on track” thing, but the information that I wanted to share was not quite ready. So today, a Special Edition of Martini Musings…just for you!!! As you may know/remember, I had a day of photos and filmmaking a few weeks ago. This video was an all-day production and I really didn’t know for sure how it would turn out or exactly where it would be presented. Yesterday (Thursday), I received the email with the link to a video that will soon be on the AARP Facebook page and website. In addition, there would be an article on the AARP magazine online, with the possibility of the article showing up in the AARP magazine. Because you are the people who have loved me for most of my adult life (some even longer!), I want you to have the first dibs on the viewing. This video is a snippet of my journey and why I joined The Ethel Circle, which is a Faceb...

Oh Mother’s Day…   Happy Mother’s Day to all my friends and family and those of you who are blessed to still have your Mommas. I am one of the fortunate ones and I don’t take that for granted. This past weekend, I attended a Celebration of Life for a friend of my parents. She and her husband have been friends of Mom & Dad for almost 70 years. Their oldest daughter and I were each other’s first friends…literally! We were babies when our parents were just getting started as parents. The friendship has endured a lot of wonderful times, some sad times, being a part of each other’s family weddings, milestone birthdays, traveling as couples and visits annually to each other’s homes…one in Louisville and one in Detroit…until Alzheimer’s slowly drained the life from this sweet wife, mother, friend. At the Celebration of Life, each of her children spoke briefly about their Mom and cute stories from their lives. Then the grandchildren spoke briefly about their Grandmother....

Go Baby Go!!! Yep…Derby week is in full swing and tomorrow, Louisville will become THE place to be for three days! If any of you are reading this and will be in the area…Welcome and have a great time!! If you want to have a mint julep, feel free to stop by! My week has been so fun and the events did not disappoint. It all started with Opening Night in the Turf Club at Churchill Downs. It was a beautiful evening with a light breeze. Our driver was very kind, but sadly, her car did not have air conditioning, so we were a little warm heading out to the track. Note to self…be sure to ask that question when scheduling!! After arriving near the gate, we enjoyed the easy ride on the escalator and elevator to the Turf Club where we were seated and greeted and ordered our first cocktails…a mint julep for me!! I have to say, it was a lot of fun and I think that winning a few races helped keep the fun going! Food and drink along with good people, celebrities and excellent people wa...
Talk Derby to Me!!! Let the games begin!! The Derby festivities have begun and although we’re just getting started, the city is sprucing up and ready to roll!! We are ready to welcome thousands of racing fans to a city that loves this time of year! Tomorrow, there will be a balloon glow in anticipation of the hot air balloon race on Saturday morning. There will be two glow events and a rush-hour race on Friday morning before the big race on Saturday morning. I’ve said for years that one of these days, I will book a hotel room and take in as many of the official activities as I can. I’ll need to save up for awhile as it could be expensive but there is so much to see and do and I’d love to try to be like a tourist! This year, I’ll be at Opening Night in the Churchill Downs Turf Club. I am excited to be there for the first night of the 150 th Derby season. On Saturday night, there will be fancy clothes and a fascinator or hat for everyone! I purchased this package as an auc...

Staying Busy…it’s my Jam!   As I type this tonight, I realize that I did not have a blogpost last Wednesday…so much for jumping back in!! This time, I am going to use a couple of excuses, things that have gotten in the way. I can’t feel guilty though because sometimes, it just happens. I had a lovely weekend with my daughter, collecting on my Christmas present, which was a weekend at the Louisville Marriott, a Broadway show, and a Drag Brunch. We also enjoyed a long nap and lots of mother/daughter talk and laughs. My buddy Gabriel sent a couple of videos letting his Mom know that he missed her and that he was being good and kind. I decided to send him a video and he responded right away to Katie with these words, “Ummm, Mom, hi. I wanted you to know that those videos I sent were for you, not CeCe. Oh well, I guess I sent too many videos.” Now, I don’t have to tell you that once we stopped laughing, I was highly insulted. I thought I was over it but once I returned home, it wa...

I’M BACK…AGAIN! I had this ready to go a couple of weeks ago, trying to get back into my normal Wednesday blogpost, but for some reason, the evening got away from me and my good intentions to get back to “work” on my blog, just went out the window. Let it be known, I’m back. This post will address the “Where have you been?” “Are you okay?” and “I miss you!” comments I have received from some of my beloved followers. My last post was at Christmas time over three months ago. I am so sorry! To say I’m not sure what went wrong would be the truth on some levels but on some levels, I’m pretty sure that it was just a time of being in a FUNK … F ully U nder the spell of N egativity and K erffluffing (causing confusion & disorder)! Yep, I was in a funk. Now those of you who know me, know that FUNKS are not my style! Trust me, I do not like funks and I rarely allow myself to go there. This time was a little different. I actually got into the funk before I even realized it. ...
