Talk Derby to Me!!!

Let the games begin!! The Derby festivities have begun and although we’re just getting started, the city is sprucing up and ready to roll!! We are ready to welcome thousands of racing fans to a city that loves this time of year!

Tomorrow, there will be a balloon glow in anticipation of the hot air balloon race on Saturday morning. There will be two glow events and a rush-hour race on Friday morning before the big race on Saturday morning.

I’ve said for years that one of these days, I will book a hotel room and take in as many of the official activities as I can. I’ll need to save up for awhile as it could be expensive but there is so much to see and do and I’d love to try to be like a tourist!

This year, I’ll be at Opening Night in the Churchill Downs Turf Club. I am excited to be there for the first night of the 150th Derby season. On Saturday night, there will be fancy clothes and a fascinator or hat for everyone! I purchased this package as an auction item at a fundraiser in February. I thought it was so far away and now...it’s time!

Sunday, I’ll be a guest at the Mayor’s Brunch. I have a friend with some connections and I’m going to be her “plus one!”

Monday, friends will be meeting at Wagner's ( a famous pharmacy/diner near the track!) bright and early for our backside experience with Scott Davenport! I CANNOT wait for this!! The backside is where the action is this time of year…hoping to get a view of the Derby favorites and maybe a tip or two!! How about that? This was also part of my auction package!

So…life is grand! I have my gold Derby pin, I’m enjoying luxury on Opening Night, schmoozing with the Mayor’s guests, and hanging out with trainers and horses where the magic happens! What a way to enjoy the first part of Derby week!!!

Friends, feel free to talk Derby to me! It’s my second language!!! Pictures to follow!!! xoxoxox
