SMILE for the CAMERA! As you know, I had a modeling gig a few weeks ago. I thought I was a bad-ass, #grownasswoman, going out of my comfort zone and living the dream!! Well, on some level, I thought I had arrived, but it was not a paid gig and as of today, I have only seen one tiny bit of myself in one of the pictures. The salon has not shared the pictures with us and after not receiving a gift card, a swag bag, or any kind of compensation, I’m not counting on them reaching out with complimentary pictures. So be it! This girl, stumbled on a “pop up” mini photo shoot and who am I to turn it down? So, you guessed it, today is my “reveal!” The pictures featured are the ones that popped out and I’m here to share with you! The photoshoot was in Pittsburgh this past weekend, when I was there to see my buddies! So Katie encouraged me to do this. Putting yourself out there is not easy! Now, I’m kind of “out there” already, as a peacock by nature! However, the camera (like the m...

Choosing Eros… Today, I’m going to share some thoughts about a book I’ve read in the past couple of weeks. I have been trying to read more…not just People Magazine or the AARP newsletter but real books. I have tried to incorporate reading 30 minutes a day, at least. Sometimes, I totally exceed that but sometimes, my eyes get too heavy for reading. However, it’s much better than it used to be and happily, I’m enjoying my reading time. The book I want to share with you today is Choosing Eros , by Julie Hagerty. Julie was a teacher at MND and I worked with her for the few years I was there. I believe my Katie had her for a class or two but I didn’t know Julie as well, until I was working there. Julie was kind and with an Irish brogue, she could charm everyone in her path. While I was at Mt. Notre Dame, Julie wrote a book. This book was a tribute, a memoir of her life with her husband, who was significantly older than her and soon, she would fi...

Back to School… Although I can’t say I have always loved going “back to school,” I do love school supplies. I also love the beginning of a new school year. It’s so fun to see all the first day of school pictures on Facebook. Those sweet faces full of wonderment and innocence. I’ve been removed from officially doing “back-to-school” things for a long time, but I can’t help myself when it comes to a package of notebooks, or some new markers! Working for an organization that serves school students (a resource for tuition assistance), I find myself moving from the slightly laid back summer to the craziness of “back-to-school” duties. This gives me permission to enjoy some “back-to-school” sales!! I didn’t have to buy anything this year as I have found overstock items in my storage boxes! Now, that’s exciting!! I’m not sure what I’ll do with the graph paper or the protractor but the notebooks and binder with dividers and loose-leaf paper have found their way into my daily life!!...

Am I a Barbie Girl? Well, this afternoon, at 3pm, I was a Barbie girl! Dressed in my pink shirt, I went to the theater, alone, and happily found one of my Ethel friends who sat next to me! Now, let’s talk about the movie and the hype! I’ve heard and read a lot of good about the movie and honestly, it’s always nice to just see a movie that isn’t sad or violent. So, I knew going in, that it probably had a good message and it would be fun. I’ve been trying to figure it out, put my brain around it. Not really sure what to say, that’s why I’m getting to this late! The colors, the music, and the nostalgia of it all was great! I played with Barbies for as long as I can remember, although I’m a year older than that doll! ! I’m fairly certain my first Barbie came when I was in kindergarten or first grade. My Barbie had a helmet kind of hair style. Maybe it was a bouffant hairstyle or Barbie’s recent perm. She did not have silky long hair. She was super skinny and a doll. I didn’t...
