Back to School…
Although I can’t
say I have always loved going “back to school,” I do love school supplies. I
also love the beginning of a new school year. It’s so fun to see all the first
day of school pictures on Facebook. Those sweet faces full of wonderment and innocence.
I’ve been
removed from officially doing “back-to-school” things for a long time, but I
can’t help myself when it comes to a package of notebooks, or some new markers!
Working for an organization that serves school students (a resource for tuition
assistance), I find myself moving from the slightly laid back summer to the
craziness of “back-to-school” duties. This gives me permission to enjoy some “back-to-school”
sales!!
I didn’t have
to buy anything this year as I have found overstock items in my storage boxes!
Now, that’s exciting!! I’m not sure what I’ll do with the graph paper or the
protractor but the notebooks and binder with dividers and loose-leaf paper have
found their way into my daily life!!
You may
remember my new attitude in June and I’ve been using a notebook to keep a daily
list of my to-do items. I’ve finished my first notebook and I’m ready to roll
into the next one. It’s a win to find those new notebooks.
So, the next notebook
will start with August 16. That’s when it hit me..AUGUST 16??? What happened to
the summer? Then, my excitement about the new school year, diminished a bit.
As a senior
now, time moves so quickly. Most days, I don’t really notice, but on my off
days, like today, the time flies by. Then, suddenly, it’s the weekend! Soon, I’ll
be thinking about Labor Day…fall will move in full force, and then the
holidays!! STOP…Just STOP!!! Like my Mom
always said, “Don’t wish your life away!” I’m not wishing it away at this
point, just trying to get it to slow down!
My little
Gabriel is preparing for Pre-K…YIKES!! I’m not sure how that happened but he is
headed to a school, instead of daycare. Not only that, he won’t be going just
three days a week…but FIVE days a week! How did this happen? I know how, we’ve
all grown up.
Back to reality…School
years bring a lot of emotions. Excitement is what I would like to think is the
biggest feeling. I know that going to school isn’t like it used to be…there are
so many things to worry about, but I’m determined to keep school exciting for
my Gabriel. I won’t be there regularly to hear about his day, but I will be
encouraging him to do his best. Too many kids feel too much pressure. I know
Pre-K isn’t one of those high pressure classes, but it is a big jump from
daycare!
Sending lots of love and patience to my teacher friends and those teachers who will have the newest of students. I admire you and know that I could not do your jobs. Make sure those students get to read and love it! Teach them history when the time comes!
To all of my
friends/family with kiddos & grand-kiddos heading off to school this month,
I wish you all a safe and happy school year. Let’s celebrate the
accomplishments, large and small, and help our kids to be kind to others! These are the ones who will be our
future!!! xoxoxoxxo
