Choosing Eros… Today, I’m going to share some thoughts about a book I’ve read in the past couple of weeks. I have been trying to read more…not just People Magazine or the AARP newsletter but real books. I have tried to incorporate reading 30 minutes a day, at least. Sometimes, I totally exceed that but sometimes, my eyes get too heavy for reading. However, it’s much better than it used to be and happily, I’m enjoying my reading time. The book I want to share with you today is Choosing Eros , by Julie Hagerty. Julie was a teacher at MND and I worked with her for the few years I was there. I believe my Katie had her for a class or two but I didn’t know Julie as well, until I was working there. Julie was kind and with an Irish brogue, she could charm everyone in her path. While I was at Mt. Notre Dame, Julie wrote a book. This book was a tribute, a memoir of her life with her husband, who was significantly older than her and soon, she would fi...
Yes
indeed...now that the Grandma news has sunk in, and the planning is in full swing, it's time to start reviewing
potential "grandma" names! Who knew that this was a
thing? I know I have lots of friends who are grandmas and really, I
don't know that any one of them has the same grandma name as another in my
group.
I'm thinking
it will be easy to say, it will be the 2-syllable name I wanted and to be
honest...it came from a name that my Dad uses with me so it's being passed
down. There is sentiment attached to it and that's what it is about to
me.

Damn! Damn! Damn! Please forgive the un-lady-like title, but honestly, I don’t know what else to say. I could have said, “How did this happen?” or “Where did we get it?” or “WTH?” or any number of things but the fact remains that Covid came into our house, like the demon it is. Dad started last Monday with a cold, which got worse, so he went to the doctor…positive for Covid on Thursday. Mom tested positive on Friday, and of course, I tested positive on Saturday (for the second time this year!). Instantly, the house became an infirmary. We isolated Dad in my room and I stayed with Mom in the family room or in their bedroom. As luck would have it, Joey tested positive too so he was isolating at his home. Trust me when I say, it was not pretty! We were a harmonious trio of coughers! We were sneezing and coughing at the same time (snoughing). We were achy and couldn’t sit still. We just wanted to sleep and for some of us, it came and for others, it did not. This time...
Why? On so many levels...Why? So today, I may be having a reflective day. I had plans to be in Pittsburgh last Friday (1/18) to see Hamilton with Katie & Anthony and a good friend. It seemed like all systems were go, and then the doom and gloom of "snowmageddon" started to appear. When did they start naming snow storms? (Hello Harper?) For those of you who may not know, I was always the first person to know about any weather occurrences because Greg was (still is) the weather guru. An example of his expertise was when we had the "hurricane" in Cincinnati many years ago, we were working at the Blue Ash Air Show and Greg warned me in the morning, "It's going to get ugly today and we need to be aware and stay safe." He was referring to the extremely high winds that we would be experiencing. He was right of course, and as we were preparing to leave the air show, a large piece of metal roof peele...
