‘Tis the Season…

I’m guessing most of you know what happened in my world yesterday. Of course, I saw precious pictures of my grandsons doing their trick-or-treating as the two pilots. I scrolled through Facebook looking at many of your grandchildren and even your creative selves.

We had dinner, played our nightly dice game, and then after Joey & Steve left the house, it was time for me to get down to business. The bar tree needed to be setup. Yes, my friends, my bar-themed Christmas tree had to go up!

And so it began…I tuned in my Alexa Christmas songs and went to work. I had prepared my night stand in my bedroom for the tree. Remember, my room is my space and when my tree goes up, I feel joy!

The tree is just over two feet tall. When I ordered it, the tree was “pre-lit” and when I received it, it was pre-lit alright, with 50 lights. That just wouldn’t do, so I added another 100 and even then, I felt like it could have more. So after “fluffing” the tree a bit, I added my strand of 100 lights and began finding just the right spots for my bar-themed ornaments.

After getting the ornaments in place, I turned off the overhead light, sat on my bed and smiled…and then, I felt some tears welling up in my eyes. That was random. I was not expecting those tears. I tried to determine where they came from. I’m not sure, but I have a feeling it was a combination of things. The bar tree has been part of my décor for several years. It has always been my first tree to go up and even after my divorce, I kept the tradition. The ornaments on this tree are a collection of my own, plus friends who know about this tree and have provided me with some fun ornaments that have made me smile! There are also ornaments from vacations that Greg and I took, like a margarita from Key West, or a hurricane from New Orleans. There are lots of bourbon themed items too, from our Bourbon Trail trips. I remember how we had a tree in every room in our house in Maineville. I’ve really come a long way, letting go of eight Christmas trees with various sizes and themes and finding joy in my one little bar tree.

My how things have changed and every now and then, it just hits me. However, it’s brief and then I’m able to look at the tree again, and smile. I love my little bar tree. I’ll never have eight trees again, but when I do have my own place again, I hope I’ll have some companions for my bar tree!

I love my tradition of putting this tree up on Halloween and I know a lot of you will call me crazy. I embrace this craziness!!

My collection has grown over the years and I love this tree. In addition, I have ornaments from those gifted grandsons of mine. However, it just doesn’t seem right to mix those “special” ornaments with my martini glasses. So, big news, I’m going to add a tree next year!

So get ready…next year, I’ll have a two-foot tree with the custom made ornaments from Gabriel and Adrian on one night stand and in the corner of my room, there will be a taller, skinny tree with ALL of the bar themed ornaments, because I’m going to keep finding ornaments from my adventures!!! xoxoxoxox
