Let’s Catch Up!

Tonight, I’m trying to decide what to write about and I feel like I have a few things that I need to follow up on, so here we go!

Derby is over…It was less hectic for me this year but still a great week! The city did really well and despite the ugly news of shootings the past few weeks, it was a great weekend! Friends, food and drink and lots of watching the celebrations and festivities on TV. I did a little online gambling and have a small amount coming back to me! I didn’t win big but I didn’t lose!! The weather was good and at the end of Derby Day, a huge thunderstorm came through. Fortunately, I was home and relaxing from the week! Overall, a great Derby week! Next year, I want to try and make more plans, but then again, we’ll see how I’m feeling when it’s time to make those plans.

Of course, the Coronation was a part of the day as well. As much as I enjoy the Royals, 5am was too early for me! I had to settle for the recorded version on Sunday afternoon!!

I’m the Lady that Brunches! After the first of the year, I decided to start a Twisted Brunch Bunch. The plan was to explore the many breakfast/brunch places in Louisville with friends. My intentions were to have a gathering every four to six weeks. The first one was scheduled and I was sick with Covid, but thankfully, they brunched without me! Finding a good date for everyone was not easy so the second one did not happen again until March. We had a great group of 11 and I was so excited. Once again, the scheduling has been hard so we are on the books for June 3. It’s just a way for me to “make my own fun!”

The Twisted Brunch Bunch wasn’t enough so I put together a group of strangers through a Facebook group that I am part of and the first one, although were a small group of six, none of us knew each other but by the end, we were planning to get together again soon. So, next weekend, May 20, I have 12 signed up, again strangers, to meet for Brunch! We are all over 50 and in various stages of life, so it’s fun to chat and there are lots of laughs. I think that soon, this group could become more involved, but for now, I’ll stick to brunch. Hoping other folks may decide to plan the next outing!

NO MORE STORAGE UNIT!!! After lots of help, some sweat, and a fond farewell, the storage unit is now a part of my history! It was a huge job to empty the unit and I am grateful to my brother, brother-in-law and a family friend who helped me. As you know, I did get rid of a lot of items, slowly, through selling on Facebook. Then, I tackled the bins and found lots of goodies and lots of things to throw away, because my only child doesn’t need the burden of making those decisions when I meet my maker! It was a bittersweet time for me to let go of a lot of things. Now, everything is under one roof. I’m still working my way through bins and consolidating and loading up Goodwill items, but it’s progress. I feel so good about that and I’m saving money too!! This is the first month with no storage rental!!!

NO BLOG NEXT WEEK!  Next Wednesday, there will be no blog as I will be spending the day with my Dad in Washington, DC as part of Honor Flight Bluegrass. As most of you know, my ex-husband, Greg was instrumental in getting the Cincinnati chapter off of the ground (see what I did there???). He and I were very involved in the program in Cincinnati. We always wanted my Dad to go but he felt like he wasn’t qualified since he never saw combat. In addition, his active duty time was limited to two years out of college and then he went into the Army Reserves where he was only activated one time, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. That being said, this was one of the many reasons Veterans give for not going on the trip.

After being on stand-by and getting a call to go at the last minute, Dad decided he didn’t want to go. Then, we received a phone call that he had the number one spot on the list and we should plan to travel May 17. After some serious conversations with me and some good friends, Dad was convinced that yes, he could go.

So, next Wednesday, we’ll be in Washington, DC, touring the WWII Memorial, the Korean Memorial, the Air Force Memorial, Arlington and the Changing of the Guard, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Iwo Jima Memorial. We’ll ride in buses that have police escorts, be welcomed by cheering crowds, enjoy a couple of casual meals with the other Veterans, and return home exhausted but overwhelmed by the amazing day.

I’m so excited because I know just how special the day will be. Dad has no idea what to expect and I hope that it will be a special day for the two of us to always remember.

Last night, I was at my Guardian meeting and met several of the other Guardians that will be escorting Veterans. None of the other people in the Guardian meeting had been on the trip before, so I was excited to know that they will enjoy the experience almost as much as their Veterans. Several Guardians are escorting Dads or older brothers. We all agreed that we were so fortunate to be able to do this.

I want you to know that Honor Flight Bluegrass will be live streaming things throughout the day, as well as Instagram and Twitter. Of course, I’ll be doing my own documentation throughout the day and on my next blog (hopefully on Thursday, May 18).

The various social media are as follows:

Facebook:  Honor Flight Bluegrass                    Twitter:    @Honorflightbg

Instagram:  Honorflight_Bluegrass

So, there you have it! Busy days and time going so quickly!  Hugs to all of you! XOXOXOX
