SPRING BREAK!!!
I am happily enjoying “Spring Break” this week! Not exactly
the spring breaks of my youth, but a nice break just the same! To be honest, my
only time to Florida during spring break was my senior year, with my bestie and
we stayed with my aunt & uncle in West Palm Beach. There were no bikini contests
or balcony parties…just a lanai and my uncle dropping us off at the beach on his
way to work and picking us up on his way home. It was quite the trip! I did
experience my first cocktail at the Polynesian restaurant, after getting
permission from my parents. My aunt and uncle wanted to show us nice evening…we
even wore maxi-dresses! The mirrored walls made us dizzy as we headed to and
from the bathroom to giggle…
This time around, I made a “to do” list for each day,
starting with last Friday and going through next Monday. (we have Easter Monday
off as well). Seriously, this is a dream job!
At any rate, because I was not going to the beach or on a
cruise, or even to Pittsburgh, I am/was determined to be productive. Making
these lists seemed the best way to make good use of my days and even my “social”
activities were included on these lists.
I often start the list for a day, with “FINISH UP YESTERDAY’S
LIST” which is just my way of saying I didn’t finish part of the list, since
rarely does my list get all the way done. However, after five full days, I have
finished the daily list, three days! Not bad!
One of the most satisfying things is being able to mark something
off a list! My goal is to go back to work on Tuesday, with all of my “chores/projects/phone
calls, etc…” completed. That is a lofty goal, but I still have several days to
do just that.
My brother has been thoughtful enough to give me a break
from most meal prep, which is lovely! Mom has slept in on three of the
mornings, which again, is amazing! The weather has been decent, between windy
days and part-time sun, but nothing really bad that keeps us from getting out a
bit.
I plan to have a lovely second half of my Spring Break!
This group was kind, not demanding, and generous with their
tips, despite the disappointing service. It was disappointing to the point
where I may or may not go back there. It was my choice of restaurants and I had
never had any issues, but this was not good. No one really said anything until
we walked outside, then we all mentioned the service. I’m going to give them
the benefit of the doubt as the hospitality industry is still in the weeds
since Covid, but when you have to get up and ask where you can get a refill on
your water, that’s bad.
The following week, I had put together a group from another
Facebook group I am involved with called The Ethel Circle. Women in this group
are mostly over 50 and they share lots of things that we all are going through.
Other cities had meetups and I thought it would be fun to do it here, because
if you want it, you have to plan it!
I planted the idea on the main page, then started an event page. We ended up
with six lovely women from all over Louisville, We had a great time, sharing
our lives, some laughs and once again, poor service. This restaurant was nearly
empty, again, one of my favorites, and yet, I was embarrassed because of the
service. One guest even had her food cost removed due to the skimpy portion. I
know for a fact that I will not be returning to that restaurant as this was not
the first time the service/food had been disappointing.
Third time is a charm, right? Well, you decide! I purchased tickets to “Who’s Live Anyway?” at a theater in downtown Louisville, It was a live version of “Who’s Line is it Anyway?” which was a great improv show, which featured Wayne Brady & Drew Carey. Once they moved on to bigger and better things, the show ended and the remaining comedians took to the road show.
Before the show, we met our friends at the hotel
bar/restaurant for drinks and lite bites. We were excited to have a fun night,
just gut laughing. The service in the restaurant (an expensive pre-theater
restaurant) was terrible! I am not kidding. We were the only ones there for at
least 20 minutes, and we were not approached for at least ten minutes. I had
ordered a cheese plate for the table with our cocktails. As others entered the
restaurant, we watched two other tables receive their appetizers and a another
one receive their meal. Hmmmm
When she brought the cheese tray, we ordered our meal as the clock was ticking. When the staff brought the meal, we asked for the check…a pet peeve of mine! I want to enjoy my food and drink, but as it was, we were going to be cutting it close to get into our seats. We had allowed for two hours and honestly, this just wasn’t acceptable for appetizers and a burger.
I had second row seats with my sister, Lori. We had an
absolute ball and as luck would have it, Lori was called up on stage! She was a
participant in their improv gags and she was fantastic! I wasn’t supposed to
take pictures and my location was a little hard to get her, but this rule
follower took a chance. A couple of shots are attached to this post! That night
was an awesome kick-off to Spring Break! We laughed for 90 minutes straight!
I love going out with friends and family…especially
enjoying a nice dinner and drinks, without being rushed. But these three
experiences were so disappointing. I’m trying to explore new restaurants with
both of my groups mentioned above but honestly, I’m feeling a little timid
about making my next reservation.
If you are in the Louisville area and have a moderately
priced brunch/lunch/dinner place that you would recommend (I need them to take
reservations) I’m open to suggestions!
In the meantime, I need to get this post out so I can mark
it off my list and get back to Wednesday’s projects!! See you next week!!!
