Do I Sound Like a Broken Record?

*Before I start today’s blog, I want to send out all of the good vibes and prayers to those affected by Hurricane Ian. I know we have friends and family there who have gotten away to be safe. I know many of you have friends and family who have done the same. I also know that some of your friends and family may still be in harm’s way. Please know that they are in our prayers.

Now for the business of today’s blog post. Yesterday, on my way to work, I was listening to MSNBC and there was a story about that has been on my mind ever since. It was about Random Acts of Kindness.

I know I have said it over and over, both in this blog and on Facebook, that we need more kindness in the world, in our everyday living. This story was amazing and I felt validated. However, it is even more important than ever that we each do our part in the area of kindness.

We live in so much negativity and the rare time we see something happy, it’s often overshadowed with the surrounding negative vibes. UGH!

In the story there was an experiment with a group of people who were sent out on a freezing cold day, with cups of hot chocolate to give to random strangers. They then had to report back on how the recipient reacted. Not surprising to me, or those conducting this experiment, the recipients of the hot chocolate were gracious and pleasantly surprised. The giving parties were amazed at how appreciative they were to them.

Now this is just one little experiment, but there have been so many more. The bottom line is random acts of kindness make you feel almost as good as the recipient of your act.

For me, the best part of all of this, is there are many acts that do not cost money or take a ton of effort. There are lots of things, from sending texts to people you haven’t seen for awhile, just to say hi or let them know you are thinking of them to letting someone pull out in front of you from a parking lot. Small gestures…Big results. Many of us think someone might not want your act or we are afraid that they will think we are crazy. Don’t let that stop you! JUST DO IT!!!

There is a condition called the Helper’s High. I’d like to think I have that condition, but it’s always short-lived and not as frequent that I would like to have it. That’s why on Saturday, October 1, I plan to get into the habit of finding a way to do one random act of kindness every day. To keep me accountable, I’ll put it in my notebook and keep track of this for three months. They say habits develop after 21 days of repeating something. Hopefully, tackling this kindness project (I need a catchy name), for 90 days will make this a habit. Heading into the new year with this habit makes me happy!

So maybe I do sound like a broken record, but can you imagine how the kindness can spread with all of us working on it???  Have a good week!

XOXOXO
