And She’s Off…
Yes friends…Derby
Week 2022 has begun and I am doing my best to celebrate in style!
It started with
the Balloon Race on Saturday. My good friend, Jayne, traveled to Louisville to
spend the day and the next morning, we were up and ready for a 7am launch of 16
hot air balloons. We only saw 8 or so go up as the winds got gusty and the
remaining balloons had to stay grounded. However, it was a sunny morning and we
had our beverages and donuts, what else could you want? Well, I wanted a good
breakfast so we enjoyed that before she headed back to Cincinnati! It was the
beginning of Derby time for me!
After declaring
Sunday, a pajama day and catching up from a lack of sleep, I was ready for my
Derby Week fun! Tonight, a group of friends gathered at a local Mexican
restaurant for some tasty margaritas and dinner! I wore my fascinator and as
you can imagine, I loved the attention!
Tomorrow, I’ll work
and then head to dinner with some girlfriends. We’ll be a small group but I’m
planning to be in festive attire!
Friday is a
double…brunch AND dinner with groups of friends! There will be hats and
colorful Derby attire and yet, we will be nowhere near the track.
Saturday is a
traditional Derby party with good food and drink. We’ll be feasting and chatting
with new friends and old. We’ll then stop at 6:57pm to watch the most exciting
two minutes of sports as the crowd will cheer on the 148th Kentucky
Derby winner!
I’m pretty sure
Sunday, the day after Derby, will be another pajama day for me!
For those of
you who don’t live in Louisville, it’s hard to explain how exciting the city is
for this long weekend. Restaurants are packed, traffic is wild, limos and
airplanes are all over and people are generally happy.
In Cincinnati,
we hosted a Derby party each year but there’s nothing like being in the city
this time of year…maybe like when the Bengals were in the Super Bowl?
The weather
doesn’t seem to be working in our favor at this point, but it doesn’t matter. We’ll
celebrate Derby, rain or shine, and hopefully, I’ll have a few winning tickets
that day!
As happy as I
am about Derby, I can’t forget that Sunday is Mother’s Day when I’ll celebrate
my Mom and my daughter who is now enjoying motherhood. I’m happy to be able to
celebrate with Mom this weekend and with Katie next weekend.
I also can’t
stop thinking about the Ukrainians who are still suffering so. I almost feel
guilty at times when I complain about not having the right jewelry for my
outfits when these people are trying to stay alive every minute.
In a world full
of sadness, war, and unkind happenings, I’m glad to “escape” for just a few
days. I love Louisville this time of year and look forward to being around
people too!!
Happy Derby to my
friends…wherever you are and however you may be celebrating Derby!!!
Happy Derby, Lisa!
