Taking Care of Business! April has been “maintenance month” for me and by that, I mean taking care of the things that people in my age group need to do more frequently than when we were younger! Early in the month, I had a regular checkup with my doctor, reviewing my meds and making sure everything is working as it should be…blood pressure, check; cholesterol, check; gout med, check; Vitamin D, check; antidepressant, check…ish! I told the doctor that I thought I might need to bump up my antidepressant a bit. When he asked what was going on, I told him, nothing, really, and I didn’t feel depressed, just in a funk. I feel like I’m kind of in limbo. I feel comfortable doing some things, without a mask, and some things, I need my mask or I don’t go. I know it’s getting better. I have had my second booster shot. Cases are dropping. Masks are not required most places, although some say they are optional or encouraged. Sometimes, I just feel conflicted. My priority is keeping my ...

Event Planning at its Finest! April has traditionally been a hectic month for me…it used to be Gala follow-up month…making sure all details were wrapped up, gifts delivered, final numbers for the business office, and thoughts about next year. Although I really haven’t missed the Gala, I have missed organizing events and enjoying the fruits of my labor. Don’t get me wrong, I have no intention of organizing any more events on that scale, ever! However, there is something to that feeling of satisfaction when goals are met. With my not-so-new job with Community Catholic Center, there is only one fundraising event and it is almost like a walk-in-the-park for me! You know the feeling, when it seems like everything is running too smoothly? That’s how I have been feeling. I’m not experiencing dreams about no one showing up, or volunteers telling me what to do, or last-minute donations falling through, the venue forgetting to put us on the calendar, the guest speaker falling ill, ...

EASTER TIME!!! As a gal who is not in the best of places with her Catholic faith, I am hesitant to write about Easter. However, I do have my faith (no worries to those who think I won’t get to Heaven!) and I do participate in “online” Mass with a group led by a priest friend and several lovely people. So I do get my weekly time with God. That being said, I have always really enjoyed the ritual of Holy Week. Palm Sunday’s ritual, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and especially the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening, when catechumens were welcomed into the church. The faith that filled their hearts was contagious and the congregation was reminded of their Catholic roots. Somewhere, I’ve lost my love of Holy Week, but I’m okay with it. I still feel these days are special and I treat them that way, but I am in a different place and I’m okay. I don’t really know when the change occurred, but it’s here and although I believe I’m still on a faith journey, I am just fine. Now, Easte...

SPRING BREAK!! Last Thursday, I left work and headed to Pittsburgh! I had planned a long weekend getting caught up with my little family and it was the kick-off to my spring break! Yes, I am fortunate enough to have a spring break with my job! Since the schools that we deal with are scheduled off, we were too. Spring break has not been a thing for me for a very long time! I took a trip with one friend, my senior year in high school. It was awesome…we stayed with my aunt and uncle so it wasn’t exactly the spring break our classmates were having but it was our spring break and we had a great time. Believe it or not, my aunt had us call our parents to see if it was okay for us to have a glass at wine, at the Polynesian restaurant we were going to that night. Remember, I am a goodie two-shoes and this was way out of my comfort zone! Just so you know, our parents said yes, and that night, I had my first buzz!!! Woo hoo!! I was never in the financial position to take a big t...
