Taking Care of Business!
April has been “maintenance month” for me and by that, I mean taking care of the things that people in my age group need to do more frequently than when we were younger!
Early in the month, I had a regular checkup with my doctor, reviewing my meds and making sure everything is working as it should be…blood pressure, check; cholesterol, check; gout med, check; Vitamin D, check; antidepressant, check…ish!
I told the doctor that I thought I might need to bump up my antidepressant a bit. When he asked what was going on, I told him, nothing, really, and I didn’t feel depressed, just in a funk. I feel like I’m kind of in limbo. I feel comfortable doing some things, without a mask, and some things, I need my mask or I don’t go.
I know it’s getting better. I have had my second booster shot. Cases are dropping. Masks are not required most places, although some say they are optional or encouraged. Sometimes, I just feel conflicted. My priority is keeping my parents well, especially Mom who is one of the many with a compromised immune system. I am not afraid of getting sick, but I worry that I could give her something and she wouldn’t be able to fight it off.
So, I’m cautious and sometimes that means saying no to an outing or staying home and getting carryout instead of eating out. My choice, and I own it. However, it’s been hovering over me and I need to get through it.
Today I had a dentist appointment…the first one since before Covid started. I was fortunate to get a good report, despite the Easter candy that’s been piled up and waiting for consumption around this house.
Perhaps my appointment for my dermaplaning peel this afternoon was the biggest part of my maintenance. I’m pretty sure I have written about this before, but believe me, it has become a regular occurrence for me! I go to an office, where I lay on a warm massage table. The aestheticist begins to “shave” my face with a small tool. She then applies a thick gooey potion all over my face. It is cold and tingly so I have a hand held fan to help keep my face from feeling so tingly. After a few minutes, I go into the bathroom to wash my face and apply neutralizer and recovery cream. Then, I look at my face, and see a “hair-free” me!
As an Italian girl, facial hair is not uncommon. This process is a dream for me!! Today, my face is soft as a baby’s bottom! Next week, mani and pedi and Derby events!
Derby week is coming up! Saturday starts the fun with the hot air balloon race, although the weather isn’t looking that great. There will be lots of things to do…inside and outside. A steamboat race, a bed race, a Run for the Rose with waiters and waitresses will run with a tray full of wine glasses, a parade and more! I’ll be doing a few things…mostly outdoor activities and I’ll have my mask handy in case I feel the need.
I fully expect Derby week will get me out of my funk…I have been really happy to be back in Louisville during Derby week. So many fun things to do!!
Stay tuned for the Derby kickoff update next week! I can feel the meds kicking in and my funk is lifting just thinking about it!! Go Baby Go!!
