WHO DEY BABY!!!

It’s just four days until the Super Bowl and normally, it would be just a fun get together to look forward to. This Super Bowl is different and I’m ready to ROAR!!!

In case you have been living under a rock, you surely know that the Cincinnati Bengals are headed to the Super Bowl for the first time in more than three decades!! Cincinnati, my former hometown, is on fire!

There are buildings aglow in orange. There are fun videos and commercials with the team. There was a huge pep rally on Monday that was sold out (although tickets were free!) in 20 minutes.

I had a weekend visit during the snowmegeddon with my daughter and her family. They live in Pittsburgh and although Katie isn’t a big football person, (but she was excited when the Steelers went to the Super Bowl!) even she is excited for the Bengals. “I never thought I’d see the Bengals going to the Super Bowl in my lifetime,” she said! She’s 34 years old, so she is excited to see this happening!

I’m loving the fan base that the Bengals have here in Louisville too. Last night, I overheard a group of men talking about their plans to leave on Thursday to go out and watch the Bengals win the Super Bowl. Those must be serious fans as the ticket prices are ridiculous! I am happy to know that there will be some fans there.

The home town crowd will be a challenge for the Bengals but this feels different. After all, it’s the Chinese New Year (the year of the Lion)…that has to mean good luck for our Bengals.

I remember hosting Super Bowl parties while in college. I made spaghetti in my popcorn popper and invited friends in to watch my 19” black & white TV. It was something to do and we made even gambled a bit. Over the years, the parties improved.

We hosted parties in our apartments complete with food and drink. One year, there was a couple who enjoyed the Super Bowl punch and they went home and made a baby! Exactly nine months later, their “super” baby was born!  We’ve had overnight guests when the parties got bigger. Basically, our parties were a reason to get together, enjoy specialty food and drinks…nothing more since we had no feelings towards any of the teams!

Isn’t a Super Bowl party about the snacks, the commercials and the halftime show? Well, this year, for me, the party will be small…just parents, Joey, Steve and Lori along with one other couple. We’ll eat Skyline dip, an assortment of other tasty finger foods with a Cincinnati theme, and we’ll drink our version of Jungle Juice (made with whipped cream vodka and orange soda)!

I’ll be decked out in my orange and black and everyone here will be waving a black & orange pompom. There will be a few cheers, led by me and we’ll have our mini-fingers waving during the game!

Win or lose, this is a history making game for our team! I really believe this could be our year! I’m so excited that I’m even surprising myself. My family is indulging me and I know we will have a great time!
