FALL!!  Bring It!

As much as I love the summer and the outdoor fun, I truly love fall and I’m thinking with this week of mild temps, it has arrived!  I’m ready!

Thanks to the kindness of friends, I was able to enjoy outdoor living via their swimming pools and amazing porches/patios, so thanks to those of you who welcomed me in!

Normally, it’s fun to look forward to sweaters and jeans, (may I say, I am still wearing white pants when I want!), pumpkin farms and cider, but honestly, this year, for me, it’s all about the realization that we are still in this pandemic and our fall traditions are changing.

It certainly isn’t what I had planned for my first fall back in Louisville. I planned high school football at Waggener (my high school alma mater) with tailgate parties and after parties! I planned fire pit visits with friends I hadn’t seen for ages. I planned shopping at my favorites…like Steinmart, for some fall colored attire. (We all know how that ended!) I planned to give out treats on Halloween…I was even going to buy full-size candy bars since their little cul-de-sac doesn’t get a lot of traffic. I was especially excited about putting up my first Christmas tree, my bar tree, in my room before November 1! That might put my family in the nut house!!! I can't wait!!  LOL!!!

As of today, of all of those things, it looks like the Christmas tree tradition is all I’ve got! Remember, I do love fall, so I’ll take it.

Seriously, fall is a time for reflection for me…and what a time to reflect! Reflecting this year is about my blessings and how much has happened in the last few months…leaving my job, moving to Louisville, caring for my Mom, securing a new job, finding a new “normal” for the time being, and so many other things. Living in Louisville these days isn’t always pretty…the city is hurting and there is a lot of unrest and even worse, some unknown upheaval. But I know, we are a city of good people. I have always loved Louisville and this fall is no exception. I know we will get through whatever comes, but it may not be easy. I do know, that through it all (personal and in my city), I’ve realized that we are a group of survivors…of so many things on many different levels and together, we can do whatever it takes.

That’s why, I’ll remind myself that I DO love fall, and although it may have a different look this year, I will make chili, I will put a few little decorations around my space, and maybe, after Halloween, I’ll buy the half-priced UL pumpkin for my Dad…right before I get my bar tree put up!!

We're ready for you Fall! Friends, take some time to reflect…it will do you good!
