It’s amazing what people will buy (or try to sell!)
I’m currently counting down my last few days in
Cincinnati. With that comes the last bit
of packing, cleaning out the frig, and squeezing in some driveway visits with friends.
Part of the moving process is sorting and cleaning out things…some
for Goodwill, some for Katie, some for friends, some for family, some for
trash, and some for me to hold on to until I’m ready to let go!
In this process I have also sold items. At the suggestion of a trusted friend, I
tried posting on the Facebook Marketplace!
First it was the chest of drawers, which sold in a few hours. When she came to pick up, she asked if I was
selling anything else and at the time, I offered the TV table and she took it.
Well, that was easy!
Next up, the queen size bed (headboard, footboard and mattress!). Now, I would never buy a used mattress, but in our previous move, someone purchased a set, so I left it as an option. Katie and Anthony suggested I try to sell it sooner rather than later because beds can be hard to sell…Hmmmm…

Fast forward two hours and the outpouring of potential
sellers was through the roof. I
responded to the first request and within thirty minutes, he was in my
apartment confirming his desire to take the whole set…mattress and all! Now, to be fair, he was furnishing a lake house,
and he was currently sleeping on an air mattress. In addition, the set was clean and only used
for guests, so it appeared relatively new.
When I asked if he wanted to lay on it, he said, “Why? Anything will be better than an air mattress!” SOLD!!
I was starting to get the hang of this Marketplace thing and
started looking around at my place wondering what else I could sell! Let the games begin…I posted artwork, home décor
pieces, a rug, a washer, and a few other goodies! Things sold as if I was giving them away!!
My washer is in good condition but my dryer is 32 years old
and although it still dries my clothes, it is a little disabled…it won’t turn
off! I think it may need a timer. When you open the door, it keeps
spinning! It’s always an adventure! When I leave home, I usually un-plug it. I advertised the washer for sale and offered the
dryer for free!! Otherwise, I was going to have to pay a junk hauler to to take the dryer away.
Again, several wanted it!
The first person on the list came by to check it out. She wanted to see the washer in action. She arrived in a black Escalade and she was
an interesting character…extra large tank top that exposed her bra almost
completely! Very friendly, but it was
hard for me to stay focused! I showed
her the washer and dryer and she was sold!
She will be picking up both of them later tonight…despite the dryer
needing a little TLC.
She looked around
at my mounds of bins and asked if I was selling anything else. I showed her the lamp…SOLD. She asked about the rug and I wasn’t sure,
but have since decided that. Sure…the rug can go! Again, she wanted it.
The fun came when she pulled her full-sized
wallet out of her bra! Yep…not just a
rolled up wad of cash, but her full sized wallet, in her bra, along with her overloaded
key ring and her sunglasses hanging from the side of her bra! Oh my!! Now that's a multi-tasking bra!
If I could have taken a picture, I would have…I’m not sure
anyone would believe me…you know, you can’t make this S#%* up!!
So I didn’t have any problem selling things on the
Marketplace and evidently other people are willing to give it a try as
well!! Enjoy some of the highlights of
the Marketplace site! Oh boy!!
My next post will be from Louisville…I am ready!! (Almost!!)
