HAPPY LABOR DAY!
Today is my Sunday blog…but I am actually preparing it on
Thursday night. This is Labor Day
weekend…the last official weekend of summer vacation. I hope you are enjoying beautiful weather!
I am writing this on Thursday because this weekend, I will
be coordinating a wedding in Louisville.
Some of you know that I have done this before but I haven’t been
actively doing it for awhile. Partly because
I’m busy, but mainly because at this point in my life, my energy level is
waning. It takes a lot of energy to be
the “day of” coordinator for a wedding!
It will take me a couple of days to recover!
This wedding is special.
The bride belongs to one of my high school classmates who I had
re-connected with while they lived in Cincinnati. Five years ago, their other daughter was
married in Louisville and my friend, Lyn and I were the coordinators for them. It was a beautiful, well-orchestrated
wedding, that was outdoors…and it rained.
No, it poured. No, it was a
deluge, just as everyone was preparing to walk down the path, under a tree.
This family did not let the rain interfere with the
celebration of love! We had a great
time and they had lots of stories to tell!
Fast forward to today, five years later and their other daughter is getting married. They asked us to be their coordinators once again. Before I could even ask, the bride’s mother told me “Everything is inside!” Little did she know I had sworn off of outdoor weddings…never again!
Once I
confirmed it was indoors, and I confirmed the date with my partner in crime, we agreed
to the job. That was in December or
January.
Then, my Katie shared her baby news, announcing a due date
of September 8…the wedding is today, September 1.
I shared this information with my assistant and the bride’s family. I felt, and still feel, that I will get
through the wedding without any phone calls from Katie. However, I have someone on call to help Lyn if by chance I
do get the call that I have been anxious to receive!!
I have no doubt that this wedding will be amazing…beautiful
people and a beautiful indoor setting.
We will be super busy all day Sunday and lucky for us, Sunday night, we’ll
get to enjoy the reception as “working guests.”
So, today, when you read this, you will know that I am
running around in a hotel and a ballroom, herding the 11 bridesmaids and 11
groomsmen, making sure everything goes according to the bride’s well-organized
itinerary.
I love weddings and I am grateful to the friendships from
high school, that have kept us connected.
It will be my privilege to support them in their celebration of love.
Hey Baby T…would you mind waiting until Monday (or
later) to make your appearance???
