Bad CeCe, Good CeCe….
With my crazy
schedule the last two weeks, I shamefully forgot to celebrate my Adrian. He turned
two on September 26 and I totally planned to celebrate him on my blog when I
skipped last week. Bad CeCe!
So, today, it’s
about Adrian! Afterall, someday he may be reading these posts and I would be
crushed if he thought I forgot him. Good CeCe!!
Both of my
grandsons were born before or during Covid. Gabriel arrived a few months before
and Adrian in the heart of it all. Fortunately, I was able to sit and wait
nearby for Gabriel, but this time around, I could not do that. Then again, I
realized that I was going to be in charge of Gabriel while his parents were
with the new baby.
I remember
thinking how excited we were for Gabriel and I was determined that this second
baby would not get any less attention and love. I was thrilled to watch Katie
and Anthony become parents once again.
Gabriel and I
waited anxiously for our text/call announcing his new brother or sister. How
would we be able to sleep? Gabriel seemed to have no trouble sleeping, but CeCe
was unable to do anything much except scroll through Facebook.
Finally, on the
night of September 26, I got the call that Gabriel had a new brother…baby
Adrian had been born. His stats were almost identical to Gabriel’s and both Mom
and baby were doing great!
Once that
sweet, round-faced baby came home, we gently watched Gabriel hold his brother.
He was amazed, slightly excited, but ready to go play within a couple of
minutes. He realized that this tiny person was now his brother and he was here
to stay.
I remember watching Adrian while Katie would sleep and just think about the
world he had entered. I was wearing a mask as a precaution because newborns are
so fragile and helpless. Would he adapt like Gabriel had? Would he see full
faces and smiles? Would he be a snuggler? Would he have dark hair? Would Covid
be gone anytime soon? So many questions for a three-day-old baby.
Soon, I was
getting videos of him rolling over, or cooing, then it was babbling which I
felt was coming so early...he must be a genius! Adrian was sick with ear infections
a lot. Gabriel had not been sick hardly at all because he had not been out much
due to Covid.
He and Gabriel
were learning to be in the same space. Although Gabriel tried hard to share and
be a good brother, the beginnings of sibling rivalry was creeping in! Gabriel
didn’t understand that the baby toys were now for Adrian, but Adrian didn’t
know how to “fight!” So, the tears often rolled freely with Adrian. Nothing out
of the ordinary for sure, but it was new to me because I only had one child and
had not seen the sibling thing outside of my own childhood.
After at least ten ear infections, Adrian finally got tubes in his ears. His
personality lightened up and his vocabulary has blossomed. Obviously, he was
struggling with hearing and now, he could answer questions and tell you what he
wanted.
Now, the two September boys are two and four years old. Adrian can say CeCe
like a pro and he is a snuggly ball of boy! He laughs and gives a great side
eye. When he cries, he cries. His feelings get hurt to the core. But I will
say, he gets past it quickly.
He prefers swimming
over soccer, but his bike definitely gets a workout! He’s a fantastic eater and
he doesn’t know it yet, but in the not-to-distant future, his pacifiers will go
missing, one at a time! Then, he’ll be starting to wear pull-ups. It’s all too
much!!!
How can he be
growing up this quickly? He now goes to daycare without his brother who is in
pre-school. He’s excited to get home and see Gabriel but has no clue what has
changed. My gosh…it’s precious!
What I love
most is that they are brothers, and they do get that…Gabriel doesn’t realize
that Adrian is watching and wants to do everything he does…well, actually, he
does and as a result, sometimes they both get in trouble! But that’s how
brothers should be…a good team!
I’ll be seeing
them this weekend and you can bet I’ll cherish the time. I am one lucky CeCe
and just when Gabriel was turning 2, Adrian came along to give me some more
baby love.
Now, they are toddlers plus! I love those two fellas with all my heart and I know we are in for lots of adventures! In the meantime, thank you for indulging me!! #CeCeandherboys
They are sooooo sweet!
