Derby 2022…What a Winner!!

It’s the Wednesday after Derby and I’m finally starting to feel somewhat “normal!” LOL!! It was four days of dinners with friends and delicious food and drink pairings! We even crashed a party too! The week required outfits, hats, shoes, reservations, confirmations, photo opps and cash!

I’m grateful to those friends who insisted on treating me on some of the outings. Kind people are all around me. The groups were small and people were vaccinated, although the Derby party had more people, we kept as safe as we could, including moving outside part of the time.

For the first time in two years, Derby was back on track. Then, the unimaginable happened and my longshot of a horse, Rich Strike, came from behind and won the Kentucky Derby!!

I bet $2 across the board on that longshot horse and ended up with almost $270! Of course, throughout the day, I had spent almost that much but it did not diminish the win at all!!

By now, I’m sure you have seen the stories about the trainer, owners, and the groomer. They all played a significant role in this horses’ life. Perhaps the biggest thing is that this 80-1 horse proved to all of us that we should never give up…Dreams do come true!!

I’m not sure what happens next, but I don’t think Rich Strike will carry the longshot odds to the Preakness and the Belmont. All I know is I will continue to bet on him and hopefully, continue to win!!

As much as I enjoyed the Derby festivities, I did worry that I might get the Covid germ and deliver it to my folks. So today, I went to a Covid testing site for a test and I’m happy to say that my negative results just came in! I was especially anxious because I am headed to see my grandsons this weekend and as we all know, they can’t be vaccinated yet, so I wanted to be certain that I was ready for a safe and healthy visit!

This is my new normal! I’m not afraid of getting Covid, well kind of, but I know with my vaccinations and boosters, I’m going to be safe from severe Covid symptoms. I do worry about sharing the germs with my folks, and we have been fortunate to have kept them well. So, I’ll continue to wear my mask in public places or with big crowds and I’ll hang with the vaccinated friends and family.

Now, to finish my packing and prepare for Friday’s departure to Pittsburgh! I hope Gabriel & Adrian will be in good moods for posing and picture taking…at least one time during the trip!! I’ve promised a giant donut for Gabriel and of course, there will be baby snacks for Adrian! As always, I’m counting down to the hugs for my “kids” and spending a belated Mother’s Day together!

It's funny how one crazy hectic week can lead to another and you’ll get no complaints from me!! I’m on a roll…

Dream big friends…Rich Strike surely did!!! xoxox
