My Wardrobe Addiction!
My name is Lisa and I am addicted to pajamas! Never in a
million years would I expect to be so enamored by my pajama collection.
On my honeymoon, many years ago, I packed around 20
nighties, teddies, shorty pajamas and lacey underwear. I had a “personal” bridal
shower, which in those days meant “sexy sleepwear” for the new bride.
Due to a new job for Greg, we only had two nights away. So,
I packed every one of the gifts from this shower and every time Greg went into
the bathroom, or I went into the bathroom, I changed clothes! LITERALLY…I had
something different on every time.
For the first year we were married, I kept things
interesting with these gifts. It wasn’t long after that, these items were
replaced with flannel nightgowns, leggings, oversized t-shirts, and the like.
Twenty years later, there were the occasional sexy or cute
bedtime outfits, especially when we took trips, but most of the time, it was
just whatever.
Once I was divorced, I definitely got away from anything sexy or fun. After
all, who cared what I wore to bed? I didn’t care about much but that was
definitely at the bottom of my list!
Then, Kohls had a sale and I had 30% off. It was winter and
I bought pajamas for Katie for Christmas and thought I’d buy a pair for myself.
That’s when I fell for loungewear.
Yes, my pajamas are more loungewear. Not only can you sleep
in them, you can also lounge around and feel comfortable answering the door. They
aren’t quite an outfit you wear to Kroger, but in case of emergency, I could
wear them and not feel self-conscious.
Okay…fast forward to moving into my new apartment. I felt
this new beginning and my schedule was more my own. I was coming into the next
chapter. I had accumulated a few pairs of PJs. All of a sudden, on a holiday or
a Saturday, when nothing was planned, I’d declare a PJ DAY which meant, shower
and prepare for the day, but instead of deciding on what to wear, I'd dress in
loungewear for the day! I'd sip a bloody Mary or two, binge watch Netflix and
throw laundry in. It was my very own day.
These days didn’t happen often, but when they did, it was
awesome. I started to look forward to the next PJ DAY.
When I was in Pittsburgh for a few weeks at the beginning
of Covid, I didn’t exactly have PJ DAY but I did have leggings days…most days.
We’d wear jeans and think we were dressed up!
Moving to Louisville, my routine changed. However, I
realized that there were days when Mom just wanted to stay in her PJs. She had
cute loungewear as well…3-piece sets and they were comfortable. We declared
Wednesday a PJ DAY unless we had doctor appointments or I had errands to run.
It was fun.
I asked for pajamas for Christmas, I purchased pajamas on my own, and soon, my
drawer was overflowing with the loveliest of loungewear. I have donated some of
my Target brand pajamas to Goodwill. I’ve tossed some that is just worn out or
faded, and of course, I have to replace those.
DO NOT JUDGE, but at this very
moment, after the most recent delivery, I have ten pairs of pajamas/loungewear
that I would gladly wear in the company of anyone! Each pair has its own
personality and its own name. For example, I have two pairs, (one summer-ish
and one winter-ish) of leopard print pajamas. One, named CoCo, is perfect for
sitting out on the deck while sipping a cocktail with just the family while the
other one, named Lola, is good for snuggling up for some binge-watching TV or a
nightcap with a late-night visitor. (I’ve been watching too much trash TV)
Another pair is light pink with Diva type design…handbags,
shoes, lipsticks, etc... This is perfect for a “girls night” with friends and
this pair is appropriately named, “Glammy” and can provide a few minutes of fun
with Gabriel, when he asks, “what’s this?.” We can play find the purses or find
the lipsticks. I’ve named my
silvery-gray pair, “Sylvia” and this pair is just super comfy. If I smoked, I
might use a fancy cigarette holder while wearing these!
The others have names like Daisy, Dot, Star, and Fancy. It’s
weird, I know, but these pajamas bring me joy! *I have grown weary of naming
my bras…big blue, black beauty, Betty beige. Loungewear is much more fun!
Now, my routine varies most days. However, if I get home
from work, and have nothing planned, I change into some loungewear and I’m set
for the night! It’s kind of like I dress for dinner. My outfit is appropriate
attire for mixed company. May I say, it is so damn comfy too!!
My family has gotten used to this costume change and at
dinner time, they never know who will show up…Daisy? Glammy? CoCo? Whoever it
is, she’s glad to be there and always looking for the next great pajama
purchase!!
What’s in your pajama drawer??? Have a great week! xoxoxoxoxo
How did I not know you name your clothes???
