Hola! It’s Cinco de Mayo!!
I’m an Italian that loves a good margarita…and a fajita or
taco, all with salsa and sour cream! Yum!
Tonight, we had our own little celebration! Although I don’t
mind preparing fajitas since they are so tasty, I do miss eating out where I can
share unlimited chips and salsa with a couple of margaritas, order my dinner
that arrives on a sizzling skillet, and be totally full because of those darn
chips! I look forward to taco Tuesdays and flavored margarita specials. I am so
excited to start doing that more frequently…soon!!
Today, we’re all Mexican! Tomorrow, I go back to being my
Italian self!
I have been adding things to my calendar for the first time
in a year. Oh sure, there have been those few appointments for Mom or a haircut
for me, but now, my calendar is starting to have dates that are things to look
forward to, like a bridesmaid luncheon or a wedding, a babysitting trip to
Pittsburgh and a long weekend to visit friends in Cincinnati. I can’t believe
we can actually start doing things again.
For me, I’ll still be limited on what I can do and wearing a mask in large
crowds will still be the norm for me, but I’m so ready to get back out with
friends! I am finding that the first thing friends say when we consider going
somewhere, is…”We’re fully vaccinated!” It is always such a relief when someone
says that.
One day I feel hopeful that we will reach herd immunity and
the next day, I hear about appointments going unscheduled and shots just
waiting for customers. There is still a lot of work to do to get people
vaccinated. In Kentucky, it’s become so easy to get a shot, with or without an
appointment. Soon, most drug stores and Kroger stores will have shots readily
available.
The shots are free! In a country with such high medical
costs, this free shot is a God-send to many. The shots are readily available
and now, there are incentives at some locations…maybe a gift card, maybe a free
drink, maybe passes to the zoo. Everyone is working hard to find ways to
motivate those who are still not getting their shots.
We have the opportunity to get our country back up and
running, if we can get a majority of our citizens vaccinated. So why are so
many not doing it?
I respect the opinions of others but to be honest, I have
not heard any reasons other than, “I don’t believe it’s safe.” Those that tell
me this say it was rushed through, it has mysterious things in it, or I don’t
trust anything the government is pushing. Some say that they don’t need the
shot because they had Covid.
The highly respected medical community across this country
has assured us that this is the best way to control the spread and get back to “normal.”
I have a hard time believing they would all agree to this if they didn’t
believe it was safe.
I realize the shot is not 100% effective, but it is quite
high and for the 5% who may still get Covid, the vaccine will help you stay out
of the hospital.
We all want things to be normal…I want to spend time with
my friends that I have missed. I want to travel more. I want to have a full
calendar and be happy about it.
I hope you are vaccinated or that you are planning to get
vaccinated. If not, I hope you stay healthy. How about putting a vaccine on
your calendar??
Until next Wednesday…xoxoxo
