‘Tis the Season…

 

I’m sure we had them when we were younger, but Advent calendars were not a memory from my childhood. I remember a countdown made with construction paper rings, I remember a countdown on the refrigerator, and I remember my own personal countdown to Christmas as I was always so excited.

When Katie was little, we had a few different Advent calendars. Most of them had candy treats inside or little finger puppets or crafts, or some silly thing that helped us countdown until Christmas.

Last week, after many years without an Advent calendar, Katie sent me one in the mail. It was by far the best Advent calendar ever. It was a calendar like none I had ever seen. Yes, my friends, it was a “drink of the day” calendar for the month of December!!!

As luck would have it, today’s blog falls on Martini Day and I couldn’t be happier! Well, I could be happier if I was sipping a slightly dirty martini, in a swanky bar with my swanky friends, but I’ll take what I can get! Joey filled the shaker and tonight, I’m sipping a straight up, Kettle One martini with olives!! (shaken not stirred people!)

You know, the pandemic sucks…I hate it and I know you do too. But today, I’m relishing the fact that my Christmas shopping is done…just waiting on a few packages to arrive and be wrapped. I’m thrilled that this house is spotless right now…Joey and I were both off work today so the cleaning commenced early today! I’m excited to enjoy a new dinner recipe tonight…Mississippi Pot Roast (borrowed from Charlotte). Most of all, I’m excited to do my best to follow the Advent calendar.

Today it’s a martini, we’ve had margaritas, and I missed the daquiri, mint julep, Manhattan, and mai tai, and a couple others, but I may make up for lost time…That can’t be a shock to any of my followers! I’ll have to go “back in time” to drink some of the earlier ones. Tomorrow is champagne cocktail, then a whiskey sour, and the list goes on and on! I’m doing my best to countdown properly, but az u caaan tell, I shood nnnnnnnnnnot ddo so while tipping by blllllllllllllllllog… LOL!! Just kidding! But seriously, you need to get one of these!
