Up Schitt’s Creek…
I rarely have time to just sit and watch TV, although it is on a lot of the
time. For me…it’s noise. I do have my
favorite shows, but normally, I have to record them because of my schedule! Well, that was BEFORE Covid-19.
While in Pittsburgh, Katie, Anthony and I enjoyed several
episodes of the Great British Bake-Off for mindless, fun TV. Then, Katie got me started on FleaBag, a dark
comedy with a British actress. She is a
hot mess, and trust me, the show has lots of sex. I loved watching the show because I had
nothing in common with her, and the show had a everything…sex, love, family dysfunction, obsessions, hunky guys, not so hunky guys, grief, sin, and sex. Although I couldn’t relate to her, I felt
happy for her when things would go her way and I would cheer when she pulled
off a devilish prank. It’s definitely a
chick series, and I have to say I wasn’t sure about it at first, but if you are
looking for something new, check it out!!
There are only two seasons, and no third season planned, on Netflix.
Perhaps the most surprising Netflix feature for me was the
joy of Schitt’s Creek…a ridiculous comedy that stretches over six seasons with
no disappointment. This was
actually on cable TV on the POP channel.
Every now and then, I would see an episode but had it on my list to
watch whenever I had time.
Enter…plenty of time due to the Coronavirus. There are six seasons of this show and five
of them are on Netflix, but I was able to watch the final season, through “On
Demand” with my cable company. To be
honest, this is one of those shows that I will probably try to watch again. To me, it was that good!
It is the story of the Rose family, and the loss of their
immense wealth. Overnight, they go from
riches to rags (or their version of rags!). As luck would have it,
they had purchased this town, Schitt’s Creek as a joke, so now, that’s where
they go to live. They are obnoxious, totally and completely self-absorbed, and
extremely dysfunctional. The adult
children are so annoying, you will want to punch them at times. But don’t stop watching! This show has out right humor, subtle sexual
innuendo, dry humor, sensitive emotion, crazy clothes and wigs, as well as love
and some tear-jerking moments. Yes…I cried
during more than one episode.
There are musical numbers that will delight you and even a
community theater performance of Cabaret. The Jazzagals is the name of the town choir and they are good! The show revolves around the same few scenes
and character townspeople…the motel where they live, the local café, and the
town hall, Stevie, Roland & Jocelyn, Ted, Patrick, Twyla, and Mutt.
This show goes from one extreme to the other, literally, and it does not disappoint. VERY slowly, with each season, the family becomes more likeable. They become connected to this town and its residents. In the end, I loved this family! As much as I’d love to tell you more, I will keep the story to myself. I encourage you to give it a chance.

Now, I hope you’ll excuse me while I get back to my newest
show…Nurse Jackie! OMG!
