STUCK in CRAZYTOWN
I’m literally stranded in Crazytown! The Gala is just three days away and truly…this
is the turning point day!
Over the weekend, lots of things got done! Friday night, we announced the 3 Bs of
Bourbon raffle, which is taking off!
Saturday, my dear friend Lyn traveled from Louisville to do whatever I
needed! She helped me in so many ways…using
her creative gifts to setup centerpiece and wrap table host gifts! She also helped with moving items and
stuffing gift cards into envelopes. She
was a good worker for this bossy gal! Thank
you, sweet girl!! See you Saturday!!
Sunday was devoted to paperwork, a lot of
paperwork…assigning volunteers, preparing emails for the week, continuing work
on the live auction descriptions and the scripworking on the script. LOTS of paperwork!! It was a productive weekend.
Monday morning started the staging of the silent/live
auction items…this is when we pull everything out of storage areas, put them in
order, check and double check to make sure we have everything we need. Certificates will be prepared, baskets will
be filled, the props for the live auction, the decorations, and EVERYTHING we
need at the venue will be prepared to go this week.
Today, we put the guest packets together…we are sold out and
that is huge! There are so many new
things this year and add a packed house to the mix…well, WOW, just WOW!!
We’ve been working hard and it truly is all hands-on deck
with my co-workers. We are a team…but
this is the week when they truly hold me up.
I couldn’t be more grateful!
Tomorrow, parents will load up their cars and our maintenance
department will load up the trailer/truck and on Friday, we’ll all arrive to
unload and setup. I think that’s when it
really becomes real.
I read over my post from this time last year and it showed
me how far I have come…personally! I won’t
re-hash it here, but suffice to say I truly have come a long way from
then. Or so I thought…
Then…yesterday, Greg called to give me a “sanity check.” He knows me.
He knows that this week is a tough one for me. He gets it! He gets me! It was
great to hear him, remembering that this time of year is tough. Little did I know it would set off a flood of
memories…bringing it all back. Greg was always by my side, especially during
Gala days. But that’s not how it is
anymore and today, I admit, I was struggling.
After some tears and a few hours of riding the struggle bus,
I snapped out of it and got back to work.
Repeating part of my post from last week…There is still more
to do and the next few days will be busy, exciting, nerve-wracking, and
stressful. I’ve been training for this
for awhile. The troops are in place with
their orders and they are going above and beyond to help me with this.
As I wrap this up, knowing what’s happening these next
couple of days…I’m a mix of feelings, but mainly excitement! Stay tuned for a big follow-up next
week!!
