Cry over spilled wine?   Yes, I did.

Remember my blog on Sunday?   It was a lovely post about the most lovely weekend I had shared with friends!   A Grandma Shower!   Well, after I posted that lovely blog, there may have been an “incident!”

Yes, there was a catastrophe and it wasn’t pretty.  I was trying to be productive…washing sheets and towels after hosting Katie & Anthony and their friends overnight, tidying up in general, getting all of the lovely gifts put away for future use, and beginning the staging for my end of summer break vacation that will begin on Thursday night!

I had planned to pack up a large bottle of wine that my house guests had left for me…afterall, I wanted to share this oversized bottle with my girls.   As I moved the bottle, it was leaning on the seat of a chair, while I was getting the bag/tissue paper ready, and without any warning, the bottle rolled off the chair and exploded…and by exploded I mean the green glass shattered into a million pieces and the red wine, sprayed all over my rug and my pjs.   *No judging that I was still in my pjs at 2:30pm in the afternoon!!!  In the process, the glass had managed to hit me and blood was spewing all over the place.   All of a sudden, within seconds, I wasn’t sure what was blood, what was wine, and what the hell I was going to do.

In typical freakout fashion, I let out a few beauties from the foul mouth category and then I just started to cry…like a baby.    I found a towel that I could put my feet on to keep from tracking any more blood around the floor.   The space resembled a murder scene.  Truly...and with all of the Law & Order I have watched, I am certain that everyone would agree!

I sat down and tried to wipe my feet enough to know if I was in need of stitches and the initial look indicated that I was okay, but the bleeding would not stop.   I made a quick call to a good friend (thanks Barb) and within a few minutes, she was at my side with towels and a trash bag in hand.

First, she checked my feet…we decided that stitches were not needed and we got band aids on the bleeding spots.  Then, I sprayed Resolve on a small area to see if that red wine was going to come out.   RED WINE on a rug with a beige background…I wasn’t holding out a lot of hope.   However, it seemed to be working.   So, Barb kept me hopeful by chatting with me as I was scrubbing.   She suggested that maybe I would want to spray Febreze on the space…if I didn’t like the wine smell…The jury is still out on that one.   Update...No Febreze needed!!

Within 30 minutes, Barb had been my calming force and the glass had been picked up, vacuumed multiple times, and the entire space had been cleaned up with Resolve and lots of towels.

To be honest, I think I just needed a friend!   I was alone, I had this mess, I was a little blue as my house guests had left, and I was really dealing with the letdown that follows a nice weekend.

Once again, I was reminded that I am not alone…physically, I was in the space alone for a few minutes, and help was just a phone call away.   I’m certain that I would do the same thing for any of you, so remember that…when you need a friend, give me a call!!    We really are never alone!
