Summer Break and the Pool!
Just two pool days into my summer break and I have a few observations.
- I admire those who can wear bathing suits that don’t cover much! Their confidence level must be through the roof! I proudly wear my swim dress and can't stop patting myself on the back.
- I love how kids (12 and under) will get in the water, no matter what temperature it is! They jump in, get out, jump in, get out, jump in and get out…over and over. Their blue lips and shivering bodies mean nothing to them. Oh how I wish I had that kind of energy!
- I am jealous of those who have the patience to lay still, timing themselves, posing with their arms overhead, or laying on their side to make sure their bodies are exposed to equal amounts of sun. Contortionists have nothing on them! I proudly sport the tan side on my front…when I talk away, I look like a ghost on the back!!
- Tattoos are more popular than ever! I’m one of the few pool goers here that does not sport an upper arm rose or an ankle heart.
My favorite part of the pool is usually on the weekend when the
“bros” arrive. I do not mean this to be
negative in ANY way! These “bros”
are so much fun to watch! They start
out as one or two guys sitting poolside with their cans of beer. They are buff…in really good shape…six pack
abs, and what most females would consider good looking. Slowly, additional “bros” start to arrive
and they fist bump each other and join the others poolside. Every now and then, one will jump into the
water and lean against the side of the pool.
Soon, the young women (calling them “bro hos” for the blog!) start to arrive. The “bros” puff out their chests, and nod or wave to the bikini clad “bro hos.” Then, the activities that have taken place since the beginning of time, begin!
There is flirting that is simple, but serious, and the laughter is slightly phony but it’s all part of the game. I can’t take my eyes off of the action. The story-telling is exagerated...getting louder and with some physicality in the telling. This is when I realize that this is the place to be…if you are between the ages of 23-32 or so. They have a group of singles and a few couples who have developed a pool clan.

Last Sunday, a couple of guys had brought a cooler to the
pool, with burgers and they started the grill…flipping the patties for the
group. As the guys and girls strutted back
and forth to the grill, I continued to watch.
I started making up stories (in my head) about who was flirting with who
and trying to figure out who will be a couple before the end of the summer! It was awesome!!
There was also an observation about one of the “wanna be
bros” from last summer. I remember him from last year. He came
to the pool, totally a rookie, not really studly, but more like an outsider to
the group. I remember thinking, “Oh, he
wants to be invited into the group so bad!”
He’d spend about an hour at the pool then pack up and head out.
This year, he’s got a girlfriend…a thong
wearing hottie! They are part of the
group. I was so happy to see
that!!
Now, if the sun could just come out more so I can get
to the pool more often. Who knows? Maybe I can get my nerve up to prance over to
the grill in my swim dress and join the bros for a burger & beer! Nah….I’m
no “bro ho!!!” For now, I’ll be happy observing
and making up stories in my head!!
Have a great summer!!
