The Crazy World of Divorce at this age!

I have always thought I was someone who was “with it” or at least keeping up with the times.   There’s nothing like divorce at 60 to set you back…waaaaaaaaay back!

I have mentioned in earlier posts that I joined a Facebook group called Worthy Women of Divorce.  In this group, there are requests for opinions, women needing support on many levels, and there are some pretty funny things on there.   I don’t dwell on that page much because it’s hard to read about people who are struggling so.   But sometimes, when I am reading comments on there, I find many acronyms or vocabulart words and I have no idea what they mean.

I’m learning that there are lots of code words and acronyms describing divorce and dating today.   Consider this blogpost a public service announcement…if I can help someone out there, great.   If I can offer you a laugh or two, great.   If this doesn’t interest you…it’s okay…See you next time!

We all know these…LOL, (laugh out loud), BTW, (by the way), WTH, (what the hell), LMAO, (laughing my ass off),  IKR, (I know, right?), and the like, but there are some new ones that are alive and well on a divorced woman's Facebook page.

The first one I found was STBX.   I had no idea what this meant…enter Google!   Soon to be Ex…of course!
Then there was OW (other woman).
Then there was BFE (bum f##k Egypt).
Then FWB (friends with benefits).  Not to be confused with BFE.
How about Exing (unable to get over ex)
LTR (long term relationship)
POSSLQ (Person of Opposite Sex Sharing Living Quarters)   Who knew?

And how about these vocabulary words?
Pansexual (someone interested in all sexes, genders, and gender identities)
Peacocking (attracting attention through props and clothing)

Oh the list continues!!   It’s funny to me because as a 60 something woman in this crazy world of “single-ness” I had no clue I’d encounter this slang.  I’m grateful most men do not communicate with women this way, but it seems women take pride in using some of these acronyms.

I’d like to state here that when the right person comes along for me…or at least an eligible man, I will be attracted to complete sentences, no abbreviations, and verbal communication…not just texting.

Just for fun...Here is a recent note I received on Match.com:

"iv delt with enough loss looking forward to new memories" (is this a pickup line?)

Keep in mind that this is someone who likes me, and this is his first communication. I try to respond to anyone who sends me a note. So I responded to him: "Good Luck to you"
I just couldn't say anything else. He responded back to me, "u 2"
AHHHHHHH!!! This is what I'm talking about!! How old are we? Can we please use full words and sentences?

Recently, my "matches" have had similar styles...They each have a picture of themselves holding a fish!   Most have a picture of them with their motorcycle.  Lots of them have shirtless selfies.   This has been quite funny on most days!  Some days, I just shake my head.

I am fairly certain that I will sign off of Match.com on June 5 when my subscription is due to be renewed.  The "likes" have been disappointing and the quality of men, just doesn't meet with my standards.   Am I a snob?  Probably.   Will I compromise?   Probably not.   I'm okay...no rush!

In the meantime, I'll adventure out...day trips, a martini at a local bar now and then, and relaxing by the pool...daydreaming about the day when I'll be a grandma!
