Laugh…or you will cry!!

There are a few lines that I call on when life takes crazy turns.   Trust your gut!  I’m a grown ass woman!  It’s all good!   You can't make this S### up!  And this week…I have to laugh, or I would cry!!

Many of you know this past week has not been a good one for me.   It’s been super busy and there’s been a lot of chaos with my space at work and on Thursday, the chaos “leaked” into my apartment/home!   That may be a little pun, as there was definitely a water issue in my apartment.   The short story is my neighbor had a major water problem and it “spilled” over into my apartment, causing my guest room to be soaked!  I was in touch with apartment management on Thursday but the dreaded message arrived… “Hi Lisa…It’s Karen at Nantucket.   Can you call me when you get this message?”   UGH!   That’s never a good sign!

I soon learned that a restoration company had been called and everything had been moved out of the guest room and moved into the open spaces in my apartment.   This meant, when I opened my door, there was a wire shelving unit in the living room, surrounded by stacks of Rubbermaid bins.   I mean bins were everywhere, except where they had once been…Lining the kitchen floor, with only enough room to turn sideways and sliver through…Surrounding the dining room table, with room to get to the laundry room if I sucked in my gut…Doors had been removed from their hinges and were leaning against the hallway wall…a nightstand was in the guest bathroom…CHAOS, I tell you…utter chaos!   On top of all of this were four special fans on top and under the carpet in the guest bedroom…the carpet looked like rolling hills as the fans were blowing in waves, causing the carpet to go up and down.

The loudest machine in the house was the de-humidifier, working overtime, taking the initial humidity in the apartment from 95% down to 70% and now, today, 45%.   There is still a lot of moisture in there!  Think muggy day…but in your house!

I had a quick trip to Louisville planned so it was good to getaway from the chaos…and thanks to my high school friends who I adore and helped make my Saturday a fun escape from this past week, which had been my life!

But my Saturday in Cincinnati before I left was not uneventful…I had given permission to the apartment management to enter my apartment over the weekend, since I was going to be out of town.   Well, they took that seriously.  Picture this… I was in the bathroom, finishing my makeup and was partially dressed…pants and a bra, but no shirt (sorry, that may be too much information!).   I heard a noise and went to check on it and found the maintenance man on his knee, preparing to empty the de-humidifier.   I called out, “HOLD ON!!  HOLD ON!!  I’m in here!!”   I’m fairly certain Dennis may have nearly had a heart attack, or soiled his pants, but he carried on while I retrieved my shirt.   It was a just the icing on the cake as to what my week had been.   We exchanged some nervous chatter, then he headed out.   I told him I would be back sometime Sunday afternoon.   I laughed because I wanted to cry.

Well, I returned a short time ago, walking into a very humid apartment.   Once again, humidity is hovering around 40-45% according to the machinery.   I fixed myself some iced tea and sat down to write this blog.   I have basketball on the TV and I am sitting in the dark…not sure why, just settled in with the computer and didn’t need lights.   Then, with no warning…my door is unlocked and someone is walking in (I assumed it was Dennis again!).

From my chair, I cannot see the front door due to the stacks of bins so I yelled out…”HELLO…I’m here!!”   Again, Dennis was falling all over himself…I didn’t even move…just said, “Hi” and he said, “I’m going to check the water again!”   WHAT THE WHAT???

Now, I know I had told them I was going to be out of town, and I am grateful that they are checking regularly but after that “surprise” or wardrobe malfunction, just yesterday, would he not think to knock first??   I did laugh, at myself, because I didn’t even move from the chair…I looked over and chatted with him, but never got out of my chair…Is this my new normal???

So, my weekend is nearly over, and I once again have a busy week and I’m trying to stay positive.   Last week had a lot of negative moments and I hate that…I mean, one of my strengths is POSITIVITY!!   Tomorrow is a new day!   Bring it on baby, bring it on!!
